Sándor Márai

1900–1989

Márai Sándor, eredeti nevén Márai Grosschmid Sándor Károly Henrik (Kassa, 1900. április 11. – San Diego, Kalifornia, 1989. február 21.) magyar író, költő, újságíró, rövid ideig a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia rendes tagja. Írói stílusát gyakran hasonlítják Thomas Mann, Robert Musil, Joseph Roth és Arthur Schnitzler stílusához. Márai Sándort a 20. századi európai irodalom egyik legkiemelkedőbb alakjának tartják, külföldön és hazájában egyaránt. Műveinek nyugat-európai, különösen olaszországi és franciaországi fogadtatása döntő szerepet játszott abban, hogy hazánkban is elismertté vált. ---------- Sándor Márai, originally known as Sándor Károly Henrik Márai Grosschmid (Kosovo, April 11, 1900 – San Diego, California, February 21, 1989) was a Hungarian writer, poet, journalist, and briefly a full member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
