250 years in Fauquier County

"Virginia has the longest history of any state in the American Union. Starting with the settlement at Jamestown in 1607, through the unique contributions by personalities like John Smith, Pocahontas, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and John Marshall, the story of Virginia is the story of America." "The celebration of the 250th anniversary of Fauquier County's establishment in 1759 permits us to revisit this amazing history. This book tells the story of Fauquier County's contribution to the American Revolution, the Western Migration, Slavery, the Civil War, the Great Depression of the 1930s and World War II." "The challenge of maintaining Fauquier's unique rural character and beauty amidst the technological changes and population pressures of the past fifty years and the westward movement ol the Washington Metropolitan area, which threatened to encroach on a county that still takes pride in its history and uniqueness are the subjects of this book."--BOOK JACKET.
