A Forest for Calum

Novel explores the complex lives of rural communities in post-war, post-heavy industry decades of the mid-twentieth century is Cape Breton. Roddie and his friends are growing up in the golden age of the automobile when radio and popular music exert pressures on communities like Shean. Calcum and his aging friends show us the changing world around them; the loss of the coal mines, the labor strife and lean years endured, the religious parochialism that divides families and a disappearing language.
