African Americans in the visual arts

"African Americans in the Visual Arts attempts to balance the rich tradition of African-American artists of the past, many of them little known today, with the best of contemporary artists, many of them equally unsung. Offering a wealth of useful information, this book profiles more than 190 artists. Each enlightening biographical entry concentrates on the events in the subject's life related to his or her accomplishments in the visual arts and includes a list of further readings. An introduction, bibliography, subject indexes, a general index, and 50 photographs round out the text."--BOOK JACKET.
