American alligator

A natural history of the American alligator. Having survived since the Mesozoic era, alligators teetered on the brink of extinction in the 1960s. Protected by legislative intervention, today's populations are closed monitored throughout their range. Ouchley examines the lessons we have learned about urban development and energy production, and how they can still threaten the alligator and its southern wetland habitat.
