Anne of Green Tomatoes

When there is a shortage of red tomatoes for the market, green tomatoes are painted red to fill the tomato basket. One Saturday, Anne the green tomato is painted red for the market. After becoming ill and sore from all the red paint, she is determined to stop the guards from painting green tomatoes. Her and her green friends devise a plan to stand up to the guards (giant eggplants!) in order to protect their skins and seeds from harm. This story seeks to teach children about the right to security of the person, which is guaranteed by section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Everyone has the right to life, liberty, and security of the person and the right not to be deprived thereof except in accordance fwith the principles of fundamental justice.--Publisher's description.
