Apotheosis of the North

This volume sheds new light on the formative phase of Scandinavian scholarship shaped by Olof Rudbeck's baroque history of the world, 'Atlantica' (4 vols, 1679-1702). Through essays on Neo-Latin poetry, Norse texts and translations, mythology, botany, zoology, linguistics and oriental studies, it maps out the multiple dimensions united in 'Rudbeckianism' and outlines its hitherto overlooked impact on European intellectual history.
