Architecture in Mexico, 1900-2010

From the iconic modernism of Luis Barragán to the brightly colored post modern forms of Ricardo Legoretta, this important historical document deals with the plurality of architectural styles and voices in Mexico during the 20th and early 21st centuries. Referencing French philosopher Michel Foucault s idea of effective history in which knowledge does not encompass absolute truths delivered in traditional historical texts but rather fragments, shortening its vision to the things nearest it, Architecture in Mexico offers a new reading of the diverse interests at stake in historical Mexican architecture its production and its subsequent reception. The volume pursues comprehension beyond built forms and closer to the ideas (and ideologies) that gave rise to them.
