Assaults on convention

Assaults on Convention explores lesbian misbehaviour of many kinds: sleeping with men, murdering them, wanting to be a man, even violent behaviour towards other women. Other offences include narcissism; objectification; buying and selling sex; and the obsessive stalking of other women. In breaking many unspoken rules of the lesbian community, the courageous women whose lives are documented in this anthology demonstrate the need for lesbians and heterosexual society to be more understanding of difference and diversity. Assaults on Convention examines the lesbian transgressor’s role in society and challenges the assumption that every lesbian has an obligation to protect the respectability of the lesbian community in the eyes of the heterosexual world. It argues instead that lesbian transgression can break down a layer of restrictive and outdated rules for the whole of society. From cyberspace to separatism to spirituality, the women in this book have found positive and empowering ways to express themselves, their beliefs and identities and to resolve the conundrum of living outside the conventions of each and every community.--Back cover.
