Beginning MapServer

Beginning MapServer is a comprehensive introduction to MapServer, an Open Source geographic information systems (GIS) development platform used for integrating mapping technology into internet applications. After a thorough dissertation on installation and configuration, readers are guided through basic MapServer topics and examples, culminating in the creation of a mapping application. Next, an overview of advanced MapServer features is offered, showing readers how to query and incorporate dynamic data into the application, and use popular Open Source languages such as PHP, Perl and Python to extend their MapServer-driven applications.
