Behind the Scenes

"In ancient Egypt the tombs of officials are decorated with wall scenes recording many aspects of everyday life and its structure : families, work and leisure, activities on the water and on agricultural estates, individual circumstances and preferences. These images, thousands of years old, preserve a perpetual and, although incomplete, detailed record of individuals and their society. Through them we can today gain an appreciation of the extraordinary achievements and skills of that early civilisation and of the abilities of ancient Egyptian artists. This volume deals with themes of daily life as represented in tomb decoratrion of the Old Kingdom (ca 2,657-2,120 BC)."--Page 1.
