Best foot forward

Grannie has died and Molly, whose every waking moment she guided and disciplined, is bereft. But although Grannie has gone, the author and the reader cannot resist many a backward glance to the days when she ruled the roost in the tenement kitchen in Glasgow. The Glasgow of those days is vividly recreated and the courage and resourcefulness of the tenement dwellers is lovingly recorded. Molly Weir writes of an age when people did not demand to be personally conducted through life, all risks taken by someone else. In the Glasgow of her childhood, people knew that life was for living. They had pride as well as poverty and they met every challenge with their best foot forward. In this volume, Molly steps out gaily to see what life has to offer and we follow her through the end of her scoool days, on to college and triumphantly to her first jobs.
