Blackwood

Twenty-two years of life in the House on College Avenue, Wooster, Ohio, are recounted in these pages. This is the story of the early life of the Compton family _ Elias and his wife Otelia, and their children Karl, Mary, Wilson, and Arthur. It is an account of rural Ohio in the late nineteenth century, of American and European traditions woven like forget-me-nots into the life of one family. Also, it is the story of an educational history that produced a family of monumental stature in education, in business, in science, and in government.
