Bound in Twine

"Drawing on extensive archival work as well as the existing secondary literature, Evans has woven an intricate story that binds together the labor, social, agricultural, political, diplomatic, and environmental history of the henequen-wheat complex. Although the agricultural industry eventually moved beyond this nexus, three nations were irreversibly (and not altogether favorably) altered by it. For example, this study offers a number of perspectives for considering the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). In subtle ways, the account Evans gives will change our understanding of the complex, transnational history of the North American continent."--Jacket.
