Building Word Power

Next the student reads a series of unrelated sentences contaning known words. The purpose of these sentences is to force the reader to apply his or her knowledge of structural elements and word attack skills to derive the meaning of each word. Each unit also contains exercises requiring the student to complete a sentence by choosing a word from among several highly similar words. A spelling exercise utilizing words presented at the beginning of the unit is included. This material has been specified for use with undereducated adults. The specified instructional level is grade 3 and 4. Also available is a teacher's manual providing directions and additional activities. DAT, 3-76.
