Collaborative leadership in action

"At a time when states are raising their standards to ensure that all students graduate from high school ready for college and careers, the need for partnerships between K-12 and higher education is greater than ever before. Collaborative Leadership in Action shows how these partnerships can be done to benefit all students."--Gov. Bob Wise, chair. National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. "Wepner, Hopkins, and their colleagues show us how to create a seamless K-12 system that uses the power of collaboration to improve teaching and student achievement. Effective teaching is a team sport. Our schools need good teachers and leaders, but they don't become great places to learn until those educators join forces to develop a learning culture that is more powerful than even the best of them can create on their own. This book shows the way."--Tom Carroll. President, National Commission on Teaching and America's Future. Collaborative Leadership in Action is about school university community partnerships and the leaders who build and sustain them. It defines and describes different types of collaborative partnerships and discusses how to develop, maintain, and evaluate relationships that enrich the PreK-16 learning environment. Speaking from the leadership perspectives of both PreK-12 and higher education, real-life examples illustrate theories and practices of successful leaders partnering across organizations. The final chapter provides a set of considerations and guidelines for effective collaborative leadership. --Book Jacket.
