Communities of Resistance

Brings together a collection of Sivanandan's most influential essays, offering critiques of contemporary Marxism, post-colonial development and the Eurocentric assessment of imperialism. These essays include his polemic on Thatcherism and the Left, 'The hokum of new times', and his analysis of the newly emerged world of globalized capitalism, 'New circuits of imperialism'. In these works, Sivanandan shows how throughout the 1980s the Black working-class movement was disaggregated and defeated; there also emerged the seed of contemporary struggles and a vision of socialism that is both universal and particular, economic and cultural, personal and political.--Adapted from publisher description.
