Cy Twombly

"Cy Twombly's artworks merge drawing, painting, writing, and symbolic mark making in the pursuit a direct, intuitive form of expression. Primarily known for his still-incendiary paintings of the 1950s and 1960s, Twombly continues to create work in a potently transgressive vein. Much of his recent output derives from his abiding concern with the natural world, specifically landscape and seascape." "Cy Twombly: The Natural World, Selected Works, 2000-2007 features more than thirty works in a full range of media. Highlights include an untitled 2001 series of seven acrylics with wax, pencil, and collage on paper; five scupltures in wood and plaster (2000-04); seven dry print photographs examining in detail one of the sculptures (2002); and the three large multipanel paintings III Notes from Salah (2005-07). These impressive works testify to Twombly's ongoing creative vitality and reinforce his position as one of the greatest American artists of our time."--Jacket.
