Dentro e fuori dal ghetto

The book reconstructs a part of the social history of Rome in the sixteenth through the nineteenth century by retracing the streets of the ghetto and by placing the Jews in the city. The first part of the research focuses on the urban structure of the Roman ghetto and its effects on community life, while the second explores the phenomenon of conversions and its paths. With the groundbreaking study of both Jewish and Catholic sources now available along with powerful cartographic processing, this paper provides reconstructions of the exclusively Jewish areas as well as the spaces shared by Jews and Catholics in Rome, in addition to redefining the perimeter of the area the ghetto.--book jacket (translated by Google translate)
