Dictionary of Irish Artists

"Theo Snoddy's Dictionary of Irish Artists - 20th Century is the definitive work in its field. It contains comprehensive entries on some five hundred Irish painters, sculptors, stained glass artists and designers, including all the important figures such as Jack B. Yeats, Evie Hone, Mainie Jellett, Paul Henry, Sir John Lavery, Sir William Orpen. What W.G. Strickland did for the nineteenth century, Theo Snoddy has now done for the twentieth century." "This scholarly and authoritative work has been under development for over twenty-five years. Well-known art critic and artists' biographer Theo Snoddy has visited museums and galleries throughout Ireland, other Irish collections and numerous institutions in Britain, and has corresponded extensively with the artists' friends and relatives all over the world." "Each entry in the dictionary provides complete biographical information about the artists - their careers, their works and listings of the institutions where the works may be found."--Jacket
