"June 1967... On her way to Subic Bay in the Phillipines, the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk receives unsettling news from a recon aircraft: They are being followed. Their pursuer is the Soviet submarine K-122, commanded by Captain Kostenka Bocharkov, who is hoping to test his boat, his men, and his own mettle in the dangerous waters of the Cold War. He is about to be obliged. The USS Dale, commanded by Captain Danny MacDonald, is ordered to hunt down and track the Soviet sub. But what begins as a seaborne saber rattling escalates into a running game of wiles and wills, as both captains fight to keep one step ahead of their opponent while crossing the Pacific--and to stay one step away from the precarious, invisible line that could spark World War III..."--p.
