Frauen, Kunst und Macht

Women. Art and Power tells the story of three notable personalities who set standards for the princely culture within the Habsburg dynasty: Archduchess Margarete, governor of the Burgundian Netherlands (1480-1530), Archduchess Maria, Queen of Hungary (1505-1558) and Archduchess Katharina, Queen of Portugal (1507- 1578). For the first time, an exhibition presents Renaissance patronage with a view of powerful women and, with the help of a daughter and two granddaughters of Emperor Maximilian I, sheds light on a hitherto largely hidden feminine side of the history of art. --translation of German description from Schloss Ambras web site, viewed 8/15/18
