Frederic Remington Art Museum Collection

"Frederic Remington (1861-1909) is among the most popular of American artists. His bronzes and paintings of the American West have become iconic images, shaping the way we view the history of the West, both the land and its inhabitants.". "This illustrated volume features a biography by noted Western art scholar Brian W. Dippie. Drawing extensively on Remington's letters, diaries, and other archival materials, Dippie explores some one hundred of the most important works in the collection in relation to Remington's evolution from illustrator to artist, and in the context of prevailing social, cultural, and political attitudes - including the ethnic and racial stereotypes for which his work is often criticized today."--BOOK JACKET.
