Good cops

"Police departments across the country have begun to embrace a new approach to law enforcement, which David A. Harris calls "preventive policing." Based on five years of research, Good Cops highlights how preventive policing has succeeded on the ground, from the accountability-based Compstat program in New York to drastic changes in police leadership in Providence, Rhode Island; from building bridges between the FBI and the Muslim community in Detroit to tackling the problem of crime-ridden housing complexes in Los Angeles and San Diego. In describing these and other compelling stories, Harris punctures the myth of "Ashcroft policing": that public safety requires sacrificing our constitutional rights."--Jacket.
