Hymnplaying Made Simple [videorecording]

Dr. Peter Davis, experienced pianist and songleader, provides a wealth of musical instruction about hymnplaying for students and teachers alike. These lessons cover foundational concepts such as mood and phrasing, tempo, introductions, flowing meter, and basic congregational style. Each lesson is divided into a minimum of four sections: biblical principles for pianists, instruction (along with examples), theory and technique, and brief pointers for practice. Some lessons also include a time of "follow the leader," during which you can accompany a songleader on the DVD! This DVD is best watched near your piano so you can play along or practice conveniently. This six-part DVD series is designed for intermediate pianists with little or no prior hymnplaying instruction, hymn-players who want to hone their skills, and piano teachers who want a systematic approach to teaching their students hymn-playing. - Container.
