Josef Gočár

"The architect Josef Gočár is among the most important figures in European architecture of the first half of the 20th century. His work went through a complex development from Art Nouveau to Functionalism, yet in every phase he was able to create works that influenced a number of other designers. He also made significant contributions as an urban planner, furniture designer and teacher, and he was among the key personalities of the influential Máines Association of Fine Artists. ... On the pages of this book, a collective of authors have endeavoured to present this renowned architect of the first half of the previous century as a versatile figure on European cultural scene and to familiarize readers not only with his key works but also with his lesser-known buildings and projects."--P. 434.
