Kings, queens, bones, and bastards

"If you have ever looked around a cathedral or castle and found yourself wanting to know more about the monarch buried there or who once lived there, here are all the facts you need. This book contains short biographies of all the monarchs of England, from Egbert, crowned in 802 and considered the first king of England, to Queen Elizabeth II, as well as accounts of the lives of their queens and consorts, and of their mistresses and bastard children. The book also tells the story of the Saxons, describes where each king or queen is buried, and gives many lively incidents of royal history that rarely appear in the text books." "This is an ideal reference and guide to the monarchy for the general reader, with plenty of anecdotes that will bring history alive for students, visitors and anyone who likes to know the byways as well as the highways of history."--BOOK JACKET.
