Margaret Storm Jameson

"The life of Margaret Storm Jameson (1891-1986), novelist, autobiographer, and political activist, spanned almost the whole of the twentieth century. This book draws on unpublished archive material to tell the story of Jameson's life, and the experiences as daughter, wife, and mother that shaped her personality and her writing career. New research traces the extensive English, European and transatlantic networks that she helped create. Fresh light is cast on her engagement with the important cultural issues of the day: the relationship of culture and society; the interconnections of memory, landscape and culture; the aesthetics of modernity; writing and politics; the nature of the writing subject. Extensive literary-critical analysis indicates the quality and originality of the best of her writing."--Jacket.
