Mary Robinson

"John Horgan offers a rare close-up view of an exemplary modern woman's life. Mary Robinson's seven-year presidency of the Republic of Ireland has been the high point in a career marked by triumph, disappointment, and unexpected developments. Known as a champion of the poor, the oppressed, and the underprivileged, she has won the hearts of millions in her country and around the world. At fifty-four, when the book ends, she decides not to seek a second term, preferring instead to continue her humanitarian work at the helm of the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations."--BOOK JACKET.
