Miracles in the mountains

In March 1991, the US troops halted their advance 70 miles south of Baghdad and signed a non-aggression treaty with the defeated Iraqi Army. Saddam Hussein seized this opportunity and unleashed his deadliest weapon --The Republican Guard-- on the Kurds, who had successfully led a popular uprising only weeks earlier. This is a remarkable first-hand account of a young Kurd, who, as the outcome of the Gulf War grows more complicated, finds himself surrounded by political chaos from 1991-1996, forcing him and thousands of fellow Kurds to flee into the mountains. There he stares at the face of death --not once, but twice. The story of his two amazing escapes from Saddam's Iraq and his attempts to reach the U.S. is filled with supernatural intervention, tragedy, hardship, coercion, suffering, compassion, endurance, forbidden romance in a restrictive religious culture, and the beginning of his search for the meaning of the truth.
