Mozart in the jungle

"In the tradition of Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential and Gelsey Kirkland's Dancing on My Grave comes an insider's look into the secret world of classical musicians." "From her debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall to the Broadway pits of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon, oboist Blair Tindall has been playing classical music professionally for twenty-five years. In Mozart in the Jungle, Tindall exposes the scandalous rock-and-roll lifestyles of the musicians and conductors who inhabit the insular world of classical music." "Mozart in the Jungle offers a stark contrast between the rarefied experiences of overpaid classical musician superstars and those of the working-class musicians who trek across the city from low-paying gig to low-paying gig, without health care benefits or retirement plans." "Traveling around the globe, from performances in Vienna's Staatsoper to Rio's Teatro Colon, Mozart in the Jungle is the first true look at what goes on backstage and behind the scenes in some of America's best-known orchestras."--Jacket.
