New bamboo

"This new book is a follow-up to the classic Bambusa Guadua, published by Villegas Editores 13 years ago, which dealt with the traditional use of guadua in the coffee region of Colombia. It covers recent scientific investigations and the latest advances in its use in modern architecture, furniture, craftswork and objects of art. Among the most striking are the works of the Colombian architect Simon Velez, whose guadua buildings in Mexico, Brazil, Jamaica, Panama, France and Colombia have won international attention. His monumental "Guadua Pavilion" became a star attraction at the Expo-Hannover 2000 World Fair in Germany, where visitors from all over the world saw the potential of this wonderful material, which had been subjected to the strictest physical stress tests by the German authorities before they gave it a building license." "Featuring detailed and informative essays by Simon Velez, Marcelo Villegas, Ximena Londono, Jesus Velez Estrada and Gabriel German Londono, this book is an indispensable reference work for anyone who is interested in the new architectural and design uses of the millenary guadua, a material with incomparable aesthetic qualities."--Jacket.
