Oldtimers

Every year, a team of ex-NHLers, including such greats as Bobby Hull, Tiger Williams and Frank Mahovlich, travels around Canada playing hockey and raising money for charity. Known as the "NHL Oldtimers" or "Legendary Heroes of Hockey," they get the kind of attention that Mario Lemieux and Paul Kariya get today. When the Oldtimers played in Edmonton last year, 15,000 fans attended. In Winnipeg, the 17,000-seat arena was sold out; and the 20,000-seat Calgary Saddledome is sold out every year for their games.??Gary Mason takes us on tour with the Oldtimers and puts us front and centre in arenas throughout Canada and Alaska. He also takes us to places that are off-limits to the spectators, on the bus and in the planes, and listens in as the players share their most hilarious stories.??Mason, who in 2001 was recognized as Canada's number one sports writer, delivers a revealing and often hilarious look at the National Hockey League(r), recounted by some of the biggest stars to have ever played the game.
