On Distant Shores

"From the time of Genoese explorer Christopher Columbus, and even earlier, adventurous individuals left their home countries to travel to faraway lands. As these voyagers settled into outposts in the most distant reaches of the world, they built grand new homes as symbols of permanence and prosperity. Writer and photographer Ovidio Guaita has followed the paths of the colonists to dozens of countries to create, in more than five hundred color photographs, this unprecedented survey of colonial architecture around the world." "Ovidio Guaita works in the Department of History and Restoration of the Faculty of Architecture of Florence."--BOOK JACKET.
