One Hit Wonderland

A humorous travel memoir about his attempt to escape the label “one-hit wonder.” Hawks had reached No. 4 in the UK charts in 1988 with “Stutter Rap,” performed by his comedy group Morris Minor and the Majors. Years later, he sets himself an eccentric challenge: record another hit song somewhere in the world. His two-year quest takes him from Nashville and Amsterdam to Africa and Eastern Europe, experimenting with different musical styles and publicity stunts. The adventure culminates in an unlikely collaboration with comedian Norman Wisdom aimed at conquering the Albanian charts. The book mixes: - Travel writing and autobiography - Behind-the-scenes observations about the music business - Absurd situations and self-deprecating British humour - Reflections on fame, ambition, persistence and success Overall, it is a light, entertaining account of pursuing a ridiculous dream with complete commitment.
