Our legends

Australia Post's Australian Legends Award was launched in 1997 to honour living Australians who have made a unique contribution to the Australian way of life, have inspired the community and influenced the way Australians think about themselves and their country. Each Australian Legends Award is commemorated by the release of a set of Australia Post stamps and an accompanying book, written by a selection of Australia's great and respected writers. Our Legends - Australia's Greatest by Leading Australian Writers brings all of these great legends and their stories together for the first time in one collection. From sporting heroes Don Bradman, Dawn Fraser and Rod Laver, to our ANZAC heroes, pioneering individuals in the world of fashion, philanthropy, medicine, music and entertainment; the best of the best are on show in this commemorative book.
