In a comprehensive, original and interdisciplinary analysis, the work parallels and compares - in its convergences and divergences - the process of constructing the ideal of the nation in Brazil and Argentina. Considering music as a revealing aspect of society, the book makes such a journey by examining the samba and tango lyrics - considered as genuinely national symbols of the two countries, taking as a corpus those composites between the years 1910 and 1940, a crucial period for the construction of the Brazilian identity and of Argentina.
