Proclaiming a republic

Companion to the National Museum of Ireland (Ard-Mhúsaem na hÉireann) exhibit "Proclaiming a Republic: The 1916 Rising." The exhibition can now be enjoyed in this meticulous and vivid companion of the National Museum's landmark exhibit of 1916. This collection provides an unprecedented opportunity to view the artifacts up close and appraise the experience of the Easter Rising and other momentous events of that year in a completely new light. Building on his critical exploration of public opinion during the fighting and the broader response of nationalist Ireland to the executions, internment, and other developments of the time, Darragh Gannon provides a unique and comprehensive analysis of the Proclamation and the century of national commemorations that followed. This book is a defining and compelling study that will remain the definitive account of the Easter Rising and 1916 for many years to come. -- Publisher description
