Radical Art

"Radical art investigates the relationship of 1930s prints to a wide spectrum of cultural factors: federal support for the arts, ideals of cultural democracy, leftist politics, debates over modernism, the activities of radical and artists' groups, gendered representational strategies, and the tensions involved in antiracist organizing and antifascist activism. Drawing on recent labor history, gender theory, and studies of racism, fascism, and leftist politics, Langa reads the iconographical clues in these prints in new and stimulating ways."--Jacket.
