"What is the difference between page turners, letter openers, paper folders and paper-knives? Which one is the odd one out and which one is a myth? This book is the first to explore the history and design of paper-knives, paper folders, letter openers and page turners. It is the result of two years intensive research based on information in old trade catalogues, English literature, and patents. The results of correspondence with many museums and libraries around the world have added many exciting interpretations to what is true and what is a myth"--Back cover.
