Redeeming Our Thinking about History

Understanding how to think and write about history in light of God's providence. Is every major and minor incident a part of God's overarching redemptive plan? Scripture is filled with commands to remember history and teach it to the next generation. Though many people are inclined to leave the past behind, exploring the meaning of these events helps us glorify God's lordship in all things. Establishing the importance of providentialism, Vern S. Poythress equips believers to research and write about personal and global history from a God-centered perspective. He clearly lays out concepts including Christian historiography, divine purpose, and the four basic phases of biblical history: creation, fall, redemption, and consummation. This compelling look at providence helps us glorify God by recognizing his deeds throughout history. Poythress also stresses the appreciation that we should have for the complexities of history and the limitations in our understanding of God's purposes in the details. - Back cover.
