Russia

"Modern Russia is a land of myriad selves. The vestiges of a decadent imperial Russia contrast with the remnants of the socialist dream to form a complex backdrop for an emerging capitalist democracy. Acclaimed photographer Andrew Moore captures the convergence of these past, present, and wished-for utopias in his portrait of this elusive country." "Chandeliers adorn St. Petersburg's prerevolutionary Avtovo metro station, while cue sticks stand at attention along the wall of Stalin's billiards room. A statue of Lenin lies forlorn and forgotten, while the glass window of a museum immortalizes the icons of the proletariat. Imbued with curiosity and sensitivity, each image is as remarkable a social document as it is a work of art. Together, these photographs transcend politics and our expectations to reveal a country at once beautiful and mysterious."--BOOK JACKET.
