Shirley Bassey

"For over fifty years, Dame Shirley Bassey has dazzled concert audiences with the sheer power of her singing voice - not to mention her indomitable spirit, her winning sense of humour and her unforgettable wardrobe. This long-awaited new biography follows her career from its beginning, in the slums of Cardiff's Tiger Bay, through the James Bond years and recording successes, right up to the present day - with her triumphant conquest of the 2007 Glastonbury festival." "The keyword in this sparkling new biography is context. Most people have no real idea what the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were actually like in Britain, because they believe the cliches. The reality was much bleaker - a grey world punctuated by the occasional flash of colour ... of which Shirley Bassey was undeniably one of the brightest."--Jacket.
