Silver Chanter and Other Piper Tales

"In this book, Stuart McHardy celebrates Scotland's national instrument in bagpiping tales from all periods and parts of the country. In addition to fictional stories which have entertained audiences for hundreds of years, there are also true tales of well-known pipers such as Habbie Simpson, the famous Lowland piper, and the MacCrimmons, the most famous island pipers of all. Whether dealing with friendship, bravery, jealousy, the supernatural or the mundane, these stories all reflect the central role that the bagpipes have played, and continue to play, in Scottish traditional culture."--Jacket.
