Social Movements and Social Classes

This book assembles an international cast of eminent contributors who focus on issues of social movements and social class from the perspective of collective action. An important addition to current debate, the text discusses such topics as: middle-class radicalism, racism, class, the institutionalization of movements, urban politics, citizenship, education and democracy. Social Movements and Social Classes asks how integrative and expansive collective action is in the constitution of modern societies, and how we can articulate issues of collective action, social movement practices and class action within this integrative understanding. An original contribution to the understanding of social movements, social classes and collective action, this book will be essential reading for academics and students of sociology, political science, urban studies, cultural studies and ethnic studies.
