This book explores several fundamental issues in postcolonial studies through the work of one of its most authoritative, if contentious, figures: Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. It explores a number of issues, including the question of representing the other, strategies adopted to resist such representations, and the questions of identity, nationalism, colonialism, feminism, subaltern studies and the English language within the context of Empire.
