Stories from another time

"The comparatively unassuming among these seventeen stories of Benjamin Bautista are on par with the best stories of such celebrated writers as Alejandro Roces, Francisco Arcellana, and Francisco Jose. All this should be evident and revelatory to everybody who reads, now that this collection of short stories has been published - an enterprise and event deferred all these years for reasons of pride, modesty or the stock exchange (though Boautista may well have done Filipino literature a singular service: the withdrawal or absence of such marvelous excellence for so long on the scene could have encouraged writers of his generation and some of their seniors to carry on and strive for their own literary perches above the throng). These Filipino Stories from Another Time are among the finest ever written in the world of the short story." -- Gregorio C. Brillantes (Book cover).
