Sustainability and the Civil Commons

"In Sustainability and the Civil Commons, Jennifer Sumner explains why current definitions of sustainability are inadequate and offers a framework for a new understanding of sustainability centered on the civil commons, which includes such institutions and practices as universal health care, environmental treaties, workplace safety regulations, and public education." "This work provides both a theoretical basis for sustainability and an image of a future that involves increased individual and community well-being grounded in environmental security. Challenging and wide-ranging in scope, Sustainability and the Civil Commons will be a resource for scholars and practitioners interested in public policy, community development, and rural studies."--Jacket.
