The active society

"For a society to achieve mastery of post-modern technology it must mobilize its members to work toward an active society, gain self-control, and realize more fully its values. ... [The author] depicts an active society as one that is responsive to its changing memberhip and engaged in intensive and perpetual self-transformation. In presenting his theory, the author combines political and sociological anallytic perspectives with an historical approach. From these viewpoints he offers postulates and hypotheses which serve as the basis for a theoretical framework within which additional propositions can be formulated and data codified."--Front jacket flap.
