The Chesterfield hours

"A whisky-and-splash comic chaser for the godawful 2000s. Anglican Seinfeld. Wodehouse with more sex, Waugh with more heart. Who's for a bit of what we're having, a perfect fizzer of a Brit-American cocktail, with a happy ending for all time? When his alluring wife Deborah bolts with Benedict Hoepplewhite, young schoolteacher Chesterfield must accept the iron dictates of his family code: no gentleman subjects a woman to the indignity of divorce. A gentleman needn't, however, take it entirely lying down. Whether allying with a lesser evil (the Mafia) to take down Hoepplewhite, "chucking a dummy" in a French bistro to foil Deborah's latest gambit, pimping Deborah to his randy retired Marine father Jack, or mapping strategy with his ghostly bourbon-tippling British mum Daphne, Chesterfield is keen for action. But who'd have thought that winsome green-eyed kindergarten teacher Carrie Hahn would so perfectly match with him in zest for mischief?"--Page 4 of cover
